The all in one space pioneered by Apple has been dominated by the iMac. While there were single form factor PCs long before the iMac, none survived as long. Looking at the latest Apple iMac(Nvidia GeForce 8400M) , that history of dominance is not likely to be surpassed my time soon. Last year, the same price tag could buy you a 20-inch iMac, which was nice, but now that same amount of money gets you the 24-inch model that you were really lusting for all along.

On the outside, the new iMac looks much like the older iMac 24-inch. There’s the brilliant 1,920 by 1,200 widescreen LCD that can display true HD video. The case is still made of aluminum, glass, and plastic, though now the keyboard is a little smaller. If you have seen any iMac over the last five years, the newest iteration will look familiar to you. The current iMac design is iconic, like the Porsche 911. The exterior changes a little from model to model, but the overall shape and proportions have stayed the same since the introduction of the iMac G5 in 2004.

The new model centers on the Nvidia 9400M chipset with built-in graphics. The 9400M is fully DX10-compatible, so it can run the latest 3D games and applications, and it supports DDR3 memory, which faster than the DDR2 , memory in the iMac’s predecessor. The 9400M isn’t a gaming part, but it will let you do light to moderate 3D tasks. The changes also extend to the amount of memory and storage. The system’s 4GB of system memory is now standard, up from 1GB, which helps a lot for the kinds of multimedia tasks the iMac is good at. The hard drive is up from 320GB to 640GB at this price point.

Last but not least, the iMac comes with a one-year parts and service warranty, but only 90-days of phone tech support. You can bring the iMac to any Apple store for walk-up service during the one-year warranty, but for three years of phone and warranty service, an AppleCare protection plan is for some extra bucks.

With a new look, an enhanced screen, text-to-speech capability, and a host of additional design improvements, Amazon’s Kindle 2 offers everything that made the original Kindle a best-seller– and more. The price remains high, but avid readers will make back some of that cash on discounted e-books. Although I would love to see a more open file format, the Kindle 2 is still the best e-book reader you can buy. With an ever-increasing catalog of magazines and blogs coming to the platform, the Kindle 2’s appeal will extend far beyond the bookstore.

Kindle 2 weighs 10.3 ounces and measures 8 by 5.3 by 0.4 inches(HWD), which is much thinner than a paperback book and about half the thickness of the first Kindle. Although it still has the same white plastic frame, the rubberized back has been replaced with brushed aluminum. This Kindle feels more solid than its predecessor , but the Sony Reader PRS-700’s mostly metal construction still feels more durable than either Kindle iteration. The Kindle’s proprietary roller wheel has been replaced with a more useful five-way joy stick. Also gone are the too-large page-turn buttons, replaced by new, smaller Next Page buttons that are still situated on both sides of the device.

At a mere 1.9 inches, the 46-inch Samsung LN46A850 is the company’s thinnest HDTV yet. What’s more, the LN46A850’s colors are brilliantly accurate, its video black inky-dark, and its reproduction of standard- and high-definition sources admirably detailed. And the LN46A850 is loaded with useful extras, including support for network streaming of multimedia content.  All in all, it’s a tempting-and competitively priced-slim-cabinet television. The stylish glossy black frame surrounding the LN46A850’s enhanced with a subtle reddish-amber line along the outer edges.

samsung-ln46a850-3The LN46A850’s swivel-action table stand is constracted from a rectangular-shaped sheet of tempered glass that nicely complements the TV’s frame. A good, stylish TV deserves a quality remote control, and the LN46A850 includes two things , such as a standard model with backlit keys and a mini remote. An Ethernet port lets you stream video and audio from a DLNA-compliant server or Windows PC. I streamed DVD video files successfully, except that the aspect ratio of the video was incorrect. Using calibrated picture settings, I found that the LN46A850’s average picture contrast was an impressive 3,487:1. This result is one of the best I have seen among fluoresent-backlit LCDs, second only to the LN52A750’s contrast result of 3,725:1.

A picturerelated issue I found with the LN46A850 unit I tested was poor bright and dark uniformity. But I woundn’t say this issue is representitive, necessarily , of the entire series; it’s likely a defect on the unit I received. The fast, 120-Hz refresh rate technology featured in the LN46A850 is configured by default to smooth out video motion to enhance picture details. With the set’s film detection enabled, its ability to upconvert standard-definition video(480i) to the screen’s 1080p format was exceptional. HD satellite TV as well as Blu-ray movies and test material were as detailed as I have seen on any LCD television.

With a brand-new look, and some of the highest-end tech available in a laptop, we’re semi-surprised that Alienware has kept the M17x name for its newest 17-inch laptop. There’s no question that Alienware’s M17x with dual-GPU system is one the most powerful — if not the most powerful — laptop out there right now, but at 15.4 pounds and a sub-two hour battery life, the definition of “laptop” is being stretched a bit here.

A handful of reviews have hit the inter webs, and the none too startling consensus is you’ll be paying for the best here, especially with configuration options that can slot up to $5,000 — CNET Australia suggests looking at the ASUS W90 if you want a better bang for your buck. The capacitive buttons above the keyboard aren’t too responsive, there’s no multi-touch, and Hot Hardware noticed some flex in the center of the keyboard, but on the flip side, you’ll be running full HD video and the most taxing games with little to no strain — and if you like your keyboard to look like a light show, there’s eight different sections to customize with different-colored LEDs. Guide your mouse to the links below for more in-depth discussion. Guide your look closely to the links in the lower regions in the place of to a greater degree in-depth canvassing.

The LENOVO THINKCENTRE M58e is kind of like the M58p’s entry-level brother. Some of the same options are available: a range of Intel processors, full-sized hard drives and optical drives , etc. The M58e figuration, too. It has many of the same strengths as the M58p, but it is a little lower performing. As a result, it may be a good choice for those who want a Lenovo desktop , but don’t want to pay as much for the system. The M58e I looked at comes in a tower configuration, but it is also available in a small-form-factor chassis. This contrasts with the M58p, which also comes in the more petite Ultra-Small form factor. There’s plenty of space in the tower for extras, which makes this a great choice for people with older internal hardware they need to continue using.

The m58e has three expansion slots open: PCI, PCIe x1 and PCIe x16, to be extract. So far instance , you could install an old PCI video capture card, a PCIe x1 wireless networking card , and a PCIe x16 graphics card. PCI is also useful for legacy hardware like cards that support aging tech like laser bar code scanners. There’s space for at least one more optical drive or hard drive in the chassis as well. The M58e comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo E58e processor and Intel GMA 4500 chipset, which means that it is ready for most mainstream business tasks. The combo gives the M58e Intel vPro certification , so just about all business software can run on it, and it is manageable by your IT folks with standardized inventory control and support software. The ThinkCentre M58e is a middle-of-road performer, when compared with recently tested business PCs, such as the HP, including the HP Compaq dc7900 Ultra-Slim.

The M58e earns our GreenTech Approved rating for reasons similar to the M58p: the system has EPEAT Gold certification, meets Energy Star requirements, and Lenovo has made significant efforts to make their products green. These include working with the Green-Gaurd Environmental Institute and colaborating with Advanced energy group to make the M series compatible with solar charger packs. Lenovo also offers a free take back program for all its electronic products and products from other makers. The case may be black, but Lenovo’s M series desktops are green through and though.
